GP Patient Survey 2025  Interactive PCN dashboard

The GP Patient Survey is an independent survey run by Ipsos on behalf of NHS England. The survey is sent out to over two million people in England every year. It gives patients the opportunity to feedback about their experiences of their GP practice, and includes questions about their health. The survey is used by a wide range of organisations and can help GP practices and primary care networks understand where they are performing well and where they can improve.
Every year, the questionnaire content is reviewed to ensure it reflects the primary care context and priorities. Minor changes were made to the questionnaire in 2025 following more significant changes in 2024.

Changes were made to two questions this year which has impacted how trends are presented:

  • Q9: Trends are not presented.
  • Q39: Trends for the ‘Arthritis or problem with your back and joints’ answer option are not presented, due to a change in wording and this answer option moving to the top of the list. This answer option was previously ‘Joint problem, such as arthritis’.
Details of the survey changes can be found here: https://gp-patient.co.uk/report-summary-of-changes.
This Power BI dashboard is an interactive tool for Primary Care Networks (PCNs).
General guidance
  • Summary page: Provides an overview of results for key questions for the selected PCN alongside the national results. This also includes information on the response rate for the PCN, including the number of questionnaires sent out and returned.
  • Survey section pages: Provide an overview of each question for the selected PCN and associated GP practices. Where available, summary statistics are presented at national level.
In both the summary page and survey section pages, use the drop-down menus on the left-hand side to select a PCN. Select a question on the survey section pages to view results for that PCN and associated GP practices.

Notes

Data presentation:

  • Results (percentage of patients selecting a response) are weighted, and bases (the number of people who answered a question) are unweighted. There is more information on weighting on the main website: https://www.gp-patient.co.uk/weighted-data
  • Percentage of less than 0.5% are displayed in the charts (and tables when exported) as 0% and may not be a true 0%.
  • All percentages displayed in the charts have been rounded to the nearest whole number.
  • Where there are a large number of response options to a question or a large number of GP practices within a PCN, some results may not be visible without scrolling. To view all responses or practice results, use the scroll bar beneath each set of charts.

Suppression:

Suppression is used to prevent individuals and their responses being identifiable in the data, and to ensure results based on very small numbers of respondents are not released.

Two types of suppression are used in the GP Patient Survey:

  • In cases where a result is based on fewer than 10 people (unweighted), it has been suppressed. For example, where fewer than 10 people answered a question from a particular organisation, the results are not shown.
  • In addition, for organisations with an eligible population of 1,000 or less, individual response option counts below 5 (but excluding 0) and corresponding percentages have been suppressed for the relevant questions in the 'Some questions about you' section and questions relating to long-term conditions, disabilities, or illnesses. The Technical Annex contains the full list of questions where this applies.

Due to the technical limitations of the dashboard, it has not been possible to apply this suppression method to the affected organizations and questions. As such, these specific question results for these organizations are not presented. This affects a very small number of organizations. To see the full results for an organization, if not available in the dashboard, please visit the Survey and Reports page: https://www.gp-patient.co.uk/surveysandreports.

Additional notes

GP practices are mapped to their Primary Care Network (PCN) using the ePCN file available at the end of the fieldwork period for their respective survey year. This file is provided by the Organisation Data Service (located on the ODS pages of the NHS Digital website)Within a small proportion of PCNs, some GP practices did not have any patients take part in the survey – the GP practices that participated by PCN can be viewed in the GP practice Excel and CSV outputs.

Please note that not every GP practice in the survey is in a Primary Care Network (PCN) and so some GP practice results are not presented in this dashboard but are included in the national results.
