GP Patient Survey 2024: seeking your views on the questionnaire
Primary care services in England are continuing to evolve, with many changes taking place in GP practices as doctors and their teams introduce new ways for people to contact them to access care and advice. NHS England (NHSE) will lead the implementation of a modern approach to general practice that makes it easier for patients to contact their practice by phone or online and supports practices to rapidly assess the nature and urgency of requests by involving the whole practice team. There are also new services rolling out across practices, such as access to on-site pharmacists and other types of healthcare professional. More information can be found on the NHSE Website. Due to these changes, it is crucial that we review the questions in the GP Patient Survey (GPPS) and make sure we are asking about the right things in the right way.
To help us make these changes, NHS England is seeking feedback on the GPPS questionnaire ahead of the January – March 2024 fieldwork period (publication in summer 2024).
Anyone can provide feedback by clicking here and answering a short number of questions.
Feedback can be provided from 10am 23 June to 9am on 10 July 2023.
Feedback will be reviewed in July and will inform further development of the questions included in the 2024 GPPS . Details of any changes to the questionnaire will be published on this website later in the year.
What is the GP Patient Survey?
The GP Patient Survey (GPPS) is a large-scale England-wide survey, providing national, Primary Care Network (PCN), Integrated Care System (ICS) and practice-level data about patients’ experiences of their GP practices, which is comparable across organisations and over time. The findings are published and can be used by GP practices and by organisations that make decisions about local health services. The survey is an Official Statistic and the data is used in important indicators that measure how well GP services are serving patients. The survey therefore provides invaluable insight for professionals, in terms of improvement and accountability, and also gives patients information to help them make choices about which GP service they use.
